Hellos and Goodbyes

This blog has been quiet for good reasons. At this moment, I have nothing to complain about. I just got back from Houston to meet two friends that I met when I was only six years old.
We had a lovely weekend trying new places and eating to our heart's content. This past weekend was filled with laughter and great memories and I already can't wait to see them again.
Of course, separation anxiety comes with spending 48 hours straight with people you do not usually see and hangout with and I definitely had a short but terrible episode once I got out of the plane and the thought of not knowing how soon I'll see them again sunk in. There were no tears but my heart surely had a little crack in it.

Thanks to my husband picking me up, recovering was made easier for me. I missed Ron and the two monsters so bad last weekend. Thankfully, I had them to come home to and leaving did not seem so bad anymore.

More on the trip later on. A great Monday to all.

What Makes A Friend Burnout?

Oh hey, look! I found this gem of a post that I wrote back in September, 2013! Well, enjoy the 4 months younger me. :)

Growing up, I was never the one that my friends would run to when they have problems. I'd be the one they'd call when they're bored and need someone to tell them jokes and stories and cheer them up. I'm also the one who would choose to stay away from the source of the drama especially when I am starting to get dragged in the situation. So when friendship related drama is right in front of me, it's always a fight or flight situation. As a young person who needs to vocalize everything I needed to let out, would always fight, try to get everything fixed, smooth everything out.

Then I became an adult. Still the one who's there to listen when people need to let stuff out of their systems. Friend A talks about Friend B while Friend B talks about Friend A. This thing becomes a cycle and I start to do the same thing myself (ya know what they say, you are who you hangout with). During this time, my ears burst with stories after stories after stories than do not involve me but I am somewhat involved now because I know both sides and am now in the middle. My mouth dries up from saying my own piece. Do you know how that feels like? To know things you don't necessarily have to know about and to talk about how tired you are of hearing the same thing? It makes you feel powerful but at the same time, lost. What do you do with all these explanations? Does it do you any good? Then I started to question what people say about me, my boyfriend (at the time) and my family. In the end, I chose to be in the company of people I think I can trust. Closing the door to all possible sources of drama and headache. You may say I have low EQ, I say I would just like my world to be happy, bright and drama-free.

I don't know why I thought of this today. Maybe as a reminder to keep my guard up or maybe it's my subconscious telling me I need to socialize more. Either way, my guards will remain up and know that I'm lucky that I have my husband, my family and my closest friends to vent out to and tell me if I'm being silly or too serious.

A Christmas Surprise

In 2008, I met Y through her best friend (who is now my husband). It was that time after I moved here where I was starting to need a girl friend who I can meet up with and she was I guess the person God sent. We have been through a lot of things together, there was a time when our interests, priorities and even the people we hang out with changed but that did not stop us from making our friendship a lot stronger.

She is currently studying abroad but last week, we got a huge surprise from her--she flew to LA for Christmas!!! She stayed at our house Sunday night and that night was spent shopping, chatting and drinking pink moscato until 4:30am. It was nostalgic, fun and every time we talk about something again, I realize new things.

I don't know if she knows but she is one of the people I'm thankful for. The random calls I get from her because I never call due to the fear of waking her up from sleep that was a result of exhaustion from her 16-hour internship. I know, it's intense! I cannot wait until she is back in LA for good so I can bug her, text her, and call her anytime. Love you, Y! :)

Sweet and Thoughtful

It's that time when we start to be thankful for anything and everything that we received in the year that is about to end, and with that said...

In 2013, I became a lot closer to two ladies. One of them, I met through Ron, and the other, at work. I've known them both for at least four years and because I'm a shy introvert, it took a little time for me to warm up. Oh look at me own up to my fault. LOL I am highlighting these two ladies today because as you could expect from wonderful people like them, they sent me very thoughtful and sweet presents for the holidays.

First is N. She's the one I met through Ron. We used to watch our guys play basketball together until we moved farther from where they play and Ron had to stop playing because of the distance. It feels like this distance thing did something special to our friendship...it actually brought us closer. She's like a big sister to me and we can relate to each other in so many ways. In one of our loooong text conversations, she asked me if I already opened their present to our little family. I was trying really hard not to open any of my presents at that time but because she asked me, I gave in. When I opened it, it was this decorative frame that said: LIVE. LOVE. BARK. I've been eyeing on this one thing ever since we got Fox and it could not have been even more perfect! She said she thought it was perfect for us and that she got a yes right away from her husband to go buy it for us for Christmas. <3

Next is I. I met her at my previous job where we both worked for around six years. I never really got to hang out with her because she's always so quiet and reserved and she did not seem approachable. LOL I also was with a different clique at work so our paths did not cross that much inside and outside of work. Until that one day that she and I got invited to take a walk break. We hit it up right away and discovered that we had so many things in common. From having typical Gemini personalities to being obsessed with bargain shopping. That obsession by the way also played a part in us becoming closer because we'd take walks to Walgreens together after any holiday to buy holiday stuff that are on sale. The other day, when Ron checked the mail, he found an envelope from I. Inside the envelope was a greeting card and a Walgreens gift card. She said she wanted to keep our tradition alive and I should go to a Walgreens to buy stuff that are on sale. It is indeed another thoughtful and sweet present from another  lady I got close with this year.

I am not one to have a lot of girl friends ever since I got out of high school. A lot of my friends (post-high school) are guys and it's by choice...I try to avoid the drama. Don't shake your head because IT IS TRUE. LOL Contrary to what I just said though, these girls seem like they drank a lot of drama-free juice and are continuously changing my mind about trusting other girls. LOL On a more serious note, I am truly thankful for them and for everything that they taught and teach me. For all the stories and all the inside jokes. If N and/or I is/are reading this, well, please know that I love you and I'm grateful to have you as friends. #IJustMadeItAwkward

Since Ron and I got married we've kind of been in our own bubble. Sort of like all we want to do is go home and be in our turf and feel at home. It has "gotten worse" when we got Fox because we hate leaving him at home, alone.

Yesterday, when Fox was not feeling well, my best friend, JM offered to come with me to the vet. Thirty minutes before the appointment, Fox started acting normal so I cancelled the appointment and stayed at home. Needless to say, Fox had loads of fun with his Uncle JM!

JM and I spent the afternoon chatting, talking about how our friends are. Some are moving in together, some are engaged, a few of us are already married. He's We're getting older and everyone seems to be moving on now. Well, we've all been moving on with our lives but you know what I'm talking about.

We also talked about how we used to be. How we were all broke but managed to do something every night of the week. We never spent over $10 per night then but we had a ton of fun. From driving his brother's really old van to our drives to downtown Los Angeles to park the said vehicle atop a hill and just admire the view. We called the place "OL," which standa for over looking. I know, really cheesy. Hahahaha!

Fourth of July weekend, 2011. Exactly three years after we first met.
It was truly great to look back at what fun we've both gone through but I am more than thrilled to see what life has in store for us! :D
