626 Night Market 2014

Here we are again. My super favorite Night Market is back! This year, we promised to try new things instead of going back to the old ones, except for the stinky tofu and Ron's sugar cane juice! Please excuse the pictures if they're not up to the usual level of clarity, my iPhone's camera is slowly giving out on me. But on the plus side, they don't look too bad! :)

Popping Fishballs
This intrigued me, and I am so happy that Ron ordered food from this place. This place had 4 kinds of popping fishballs; crab eggs, shrimp roe, meat and caviar. I loved everything and this was my favorite out of everything we tried that night.

Squid Roe
Here's the deal, they put a cleaned and cut open squid in a batter and deep-fry it. One order is $5 and Ron and I needed the help of my family, my cousin and our friend to finish it. Haha! It was delicious, and for $5 it was worth a try. The fried batter was perfectly crispy that I would honestly eat it even without the squid...if only it were not made mostly of empty calories.

Green Cube's Stinky Tofu
Unlike last year, this year's deep fried stinky tofu had a more fermented taste to it.The after-taste is much stronger this year. I still enjoyed it though, and their huge serving is such a great value especially when you have friends who are interested in trying that stinky food that you like so much.

Mango Smoothie
I cannot remember what the name of the business is but their smoothie is unique to me because dude, it has beans and mangoes on top. The smoothie under the beans and magoes is made of ice, water, milk and sugar. It tasted like Filipino Halo-Halo but not exactly. Oh, and I also got a scrumptious little pudding for ordering a drink!

Pork Belly Nation
Ron tried this and because I saw the fatty part, I did not want to try it. He said that the meat part was very tender and you won't have to struggle cutting it with your teeth. LOL Will he recommend others to try it? Yes is his answer to that question.

The Paella Artisan
I ordered the Seafood Paella. It did not have the taste I was expecting but it was still great. It had a gumbo-ish taste to it that I thought was good. Ron was not a fan but our friend who finished it for me (because I was so full already haha) loved it.

Great Eats at the 626 Night Market

When people say the early bird catches the worm, believe them. I just saw a bird this morning (that I let Fox chase) with a worm in its beak. It was around 7am. *Mind: blown* LOL

No but really, when Yelp reviews tell you to get somewhere early, these people mean it. We [again] went to the 626 Night Market [early] and were able to try everything we wanted to eat. We went with my mom and our friends and their 4 kids this time. We were a little late because Ron got lost somewhere (he picked up my mom at the wrong exit, it is hilarious and annoying at the same time. Don't tell him I told you!) but we were there just in time to not have to fall in line too long. Or maybe I just did not notice the wait time because our friends' kids were very entertaining.

My mom isn't a big fan of eating out so I made sure I had enough money to get her anything she craved for. Ron prepared too and bought stuff that he wanted mom to try. There's one thing we tried for the first time that I didn't include below because I didn't get to take a picture of it and it had WAY TOO MUCH Chinese five spice which gave it a bitter aftertaste.

The 626 Night Market Experience [Food Review]

Yesterday, Ron, his best man (X) and I went to the 626 Night Market to do a little food tripping. There was so much variety at the market, it's insaaaane! Japanese, Korean, Chinese, American, Indonesia, Filipino, A LOT. We also took this picture in a photobooth, X makes for a great girl huh? Haha!

I also got a couple of phone cases for myself for super cheap! I'm thinking of going back there today to get more. :p I also wanted to share what I thought about the food we tried. We were very curious about everything and ended up falling in line for a lot of places. Let me just tell you that we were there early and our wait time was not as much as our other friends who we met up with later that evening. They got there around 7-ish, 2 hours after we got there.

I Have Food on My Mind...All the Time

My health conscious coworker is not in the office last Monday so I thought it's a good idea to sneak a donut and cup of iced coffee in my diet. And that is after I had a full lunch meal from the vegan place next door. I'm really feeling this birthday blues thing so I'm trying to make myself feel better with good (but ironically bad) food.

In other news, we went to the 626 Night Market last weekend but  I did not get to take a lot of photos and the two booths I went for, Beatnixx and Banzai Jerky, I was not able to visit. So I'm going to head back to the night market again next week so I can go shop at their booths! Here are a few snaps I took. :)

Takoyaki, anybody?
They did not have Calamari but the short rib tacos were still really good!
While waiting for our orders at Tastea! More pictures here and here form their photo booth.

So yeah, I love food ;)
